In Loving Memory of Koby

My wife and I were unable to have children, yet we yearned to have a family of our own. To add to our purpose and complete our family, we decided to adopt a kitten. In late 2005, our search ended when we found a beautiful 8-week-old Bombay cat at our local RSPCA. It was love at first sight. We adopted him, and more so, he adopted us. We named him ‘Koby’.

From the moment Koby came home, he was a playful and affectionate kitten. He loved to play with his toys, snuggle in our laps and purr contently as he showered us with his love and affection. Like any cat, Koby got up to the occasional mischief, but we could not get angry with him. As the saying goes, “Butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth”. Koby continued to grow, showing us the true meaning of unconditional love. He became a loyal companion, always by our sides to show us comfort and support whenever we needed it.

Sadly, in 2020, Koby became sick. Without hesitation, we sought the best care for him. Unfortunately, the news was grim as Koby was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Despite the poor prognosis, we gave Koby every chance to enjoy the rest of his life, showing him the same care and comfort he had shown us. In July 2022, Koby lost his battle and passed away peacefully. The pain left by his absence was unbearable and continues to this day.

In honour of our Koby, we decided to start a business reflecting his legacy. Koby taught us many things, including how important it is to live for the present and be able to give back to those who mean so much to us. It is in trying times like these that we appreciate the support of those we care about the most.

As the days go by, the pain becomes a little less as we learn to live without our beautiful boy, Koby, and by accepting he has found a better place.

Reflecting on the great times we shared, we had an epiphany. Why should it take the death of a loved one to start their legacy? Legacies should be started when our loved ones are around to ensure their legacy meaningfully represents their values, their beliefs, and the memory of how they want to be remembered.

The idea for ‘The Legacy of Giving’ was born from Koby’s Legacy.
